1. Restaurant Owners, Don’t Stress! Pick Skewer Specs Based on What You’re Skewering
A lot of folks who run restaurants or dessert shops get stuck when customizing disposable bamboo skewers: “Which spec do I actually need?” Turns out it’s super easy — just pick based on what food you’re skewering! We at Guangzhou Gorlando specialize in disposable catering supplies, so we made a table of the most common skewer specs — it’s straightforward:
| Specification Type | Specific Details | What to Skewer With It |
| Short Skewers | Under 10cm long, 1-2mm thick | Small fruits like strawberries/grapes, mini cakes, macarons — perfect for afternoon tea or snacks |
| Medium-Long Skewers | 10-20cm long, 2-4mm thick | Daily grilled meat, roasted veggies, meatballs — easy to hold, and food won’t fall off easily |
| Long Skewers | Over 20cm long, over 4mm thick | Grilled corn, whole chicken wings, big chunks of grilled meat — pierces thick food, so it cooks evenly |
| Special-Shaped Skewers | Triangular, diamond, or other unique cross-sections | Great for viral restaurants or creative dessert spots — makes food look fancier, so customers notice it |
2. Avoid Bad Buys! Good Skewers Need These 5 Standards — Let’s Talk Simply
Picking the right spec is just step one; you gotta get quality skewers to not waste money. We’ve been in this business a while at Guangzhou Gorlando, so we’ll answer the questions folks ask most, in plain English:
Q1: Why do we need moso bamboo that’s 3 years old or more for skewers?
A: Here’s the thing — 3+ year old moso bamboo has tough fibers, so the skewers don’t break easily, even with big chunks of grilled meat. Plus, mature bamboo has less moisture, so it doesn’t get moldy fast. No breaking, no little bits falling off — way safer to use.
Q2: How do I tell if a skewer’s size is up to snuff?
A: Two checks — are all the lengths the same, and is the thickness even? Good factories use machines to cut, so the length difference in one batch is less than 2mm (about the thickness of a piece of paper), and the thickness doesn’t go up and down. At Gorlando, we test a few skewers from every batch to make sure they hold food evenly, no tilting.
Q3: Which matters more — how a skewer looks, or how clean it is?
A: Both! For looks, pick smooth ones with no rough spots — rough skewers prick your hands and scratch food. The color should be the bamboo’s natural shade — no big color differences, that means no artificial dyes. For cleanliness? Always get ones that’ve been UV-sterilized, in sealed packaging. The package needs info like production date and specs — otherwise, you can’t tell if they got dirty during shipping.
